In July 00 I decided to make a start on the bus and completely overhaul her.  I spent a week cutting out rust, grinding back and welding. I gained a lot of info from the Type 2 Owners club site, and recommend them for info.

The bottom of the from panel had been bodged up with glass fiber.  I cut it all out and replated right across the front.

The doors had rotted through at the bottom, these I also plated.

Here you can see the bottom of the doors, a whole new section has been put in right across the bottom.  This has been done of both the left and right hand sides.

Whats all that black stuff? It's Waxoil. A rust treatment coating that is all over the bus.

Here is the back corner, cut, ground and plated....

I have since replaced the back light cluster too.

After all the welding ... overha17.jpg (10740 bytes)
Not a nice sight.  When I pulled the windows I found plenty of this.

More cutting and welding sorted it out.  Check out the panels inside!!

All nice and solid underneath, and there is that lowered front beam.  Something that I had done in 93, a bit too low for my maturing age.

More of the black stuff keeping the rust away..

Some more welding underneath, plating on the inner sill, and again more of that black waxoil. overha20.jpg (27075 bytes)
And here is the front beam, again plated.  This was done when the front lower panel was removed, making access slightly more easy. overha21.jpg (90563 bytes)
The near side corner following plating and some filling. overha22.jpg (21944 bytes)
